From the Roads of AlUla to the Streets of Riyadh

If you are a cycling enthusiast living in Saudi Arabia, 2025 looks set to be the most exciting year yet. The cycling community is becoming more active, events are growing and evolving, and the bikes? They have become faster and better than ever before.

Whether you are racing to win, riding to explore, or just attending to be part of a special event, here are the top five cycling events you must mark on your calendar this year.

Asir Tour

Location: Asir Region
Date: June 8 – 12, 2025

This tour has a unique character, taking you through the highlands of Abha and Tanomah, where the weather is cooler and the landscapes are breathtaking.

The event is more than just a race; it is a complete five-day experience, alternating between climbing and riding through fog-covered valleys.

The best part is that it is not limited to professionals; an amateur category has been added this year. So, even if you are not aiming for the podium, you can join in and ride amidst the magnificent atmosphere. Just make sure your legs and lungs are prepared, as the mountain trails are not easy.

AlUla Wheels Tour

Location: AlUla
Date: January 2025

This event is tailored for explorers and lovers of active holidays. Organized by the Wheels Foundation, it has a strong community feel—no licenses or official paperwork are required, just a helmet and a positive spirit.

Imagine riding your bike amidst sandstone formations dating back thousands of years, alongside ancient tombs, in an atmosphere where the air blends the scent of history with the desert breeze.

The environment is non-competitive, the scenery is breathtaking, and the finish line feels more like a celebration than a race. It is perfect for beginners; participating here isn't about being the fastest, but about being present.

AlUla Tour (Professional)

Location: AlUla
Date: January 28 – February 1, 2025

This is the biggest event of all. The AlUla Tour has quickly become one of the most prominent sporting events in the Kingdom and is now considered a top internationally sanctioned race (UCI 2.1).

Last year, the race witnessed some special moments, including the victory of Tom Pidcock from Team INEOS, a moment unforgettable for everyone who followed it.

The 2025 edition spans five days, covering over 700 kilometers of desert terrain. Each stage offers a different challenge: from technical urban roads to mountain climbs, and onto endless desert paths that test your physical and mental limits.

Even if you aren't participating, it is well worth attending as a spectator. Watching the peloton making its way through the desert, with helicopters circling overhead, is a scene right out of a movie.

Founding Day Tour

Location: Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, and other cities
Date: February 22, 2025

This tour is not a race, but a large-scale community event. It takes place on the Kingdom’s Founding Day and has turned into a national celebration on two wheels.

You will see children riding their bikes alongside their parents, cyclists wearing heritage scarves, and bicycles decorated with elements inspired by Saudi history.

Some rides are short, while others are long, but they all carry one spirit: celebrating identity and history through sports. The atmosphere is simple, participation is open to everyone, and the meaning runs deeper than just riding a bike.

National Day Tour

Location: Across the Kingdom
Date: September 23, 2025

This tour is different in both timing and appearance. Imagine thousands of cyclists riding at night, with bikes illuminated in green, the Kingdom’s flags waving, and passersby cheering from the sidewalks.

The rides take place in major cities like Jeddah and Riyadh, as well as in smaller villages and towns. Some participation is spontaneous, while other rides are fully organized, yet everyone shares in the festive atmosphere and a common sense of national pride.

This might be the only day when drivers give cyclists the right of way with a smile... a truly unforgettable feeling.

Finally

The cycling culture in Saudi Arabia is not just growing; it has become an active part of the sports and social scene.

What distinguishes this phase is the inclusivity and variety of events, ranging from world-class professional championships to community rides open to everyone.

If you are thinking about participating, this is your chance. Don't worry about the speed or type of your bike; the most important thing is that you show up, enjoy the experience, and be a part of this beautiful change.

The road is waiting for you, and 2025 holds so much for cycling enthusiasts.
