From the Roads of AlUla to the Streets of Riyadh

If you’re into cycling and living in Saudi Arabia, 2025 is shaping up to be one of the most exciting years we’ve had. The community’s getting stronger, the events are getting bigger, and the bikes? They’re faster than ever.

Whether you’re racing to win, riding to explore, or just showing up to be part of something meaningful, these are the five cycling events you’ll want to have on your calendar this year.

Asir Tour

Where: Asir Region
When: June 8–12, 2025

This one’s got a special place in my heart. Asir Tour takes you through the highlands of Abha and Tanomah, where the air is cooler and the views are just unreal. It’s not just a race; it’s an experience. Five stages of climbing, sprinting, and coasting through valleys wrapped in fog.

The best part? It’s not just for the pros. This year, there’s a whole amateur segment too. So even if you’re not chasing a podium, you can still ride alongside the magic. Just bring strong legs and good lungs; the climbs are no joke.

Wheels Tour AlUla

Where: AlUla
When: January 2025

This one’s a gem for weekend warriors and passionate explorers. Organized by Wheels Bikes, the tour is designed for the community, no need for licenses, just a helmet and a good attitude.

Picture this, you’re riding through thousand-year-old sandstone canyons, past ancient tombs, and the air is filled with the scent of desert wind and history. The vibe is chill, the scenery is off-the-charts beautiful, and the finish line feels more like a celebration than a race.

Great for new cyclists too. It’s not about being fast, it’s about being there.

AlUla Tour (Pro Race)

Where: AlUla

When: Jan 28 – Feb 1, 2025

Now this is the big one. The AlUla Tour has quickly become Saudi’s crown jewel in international cycling. It’s a UCI 2.1 stage race that draws riders from all over the world. Last year, we had Tom Pidcock from INEOS crush it. You don’t forget moments like that.

The 2025 race covers five days and over 700 km through the desert. Each stage brings something different to technical city circuits, mountain finishes, and those endless desert roads that test every fiber of your being.

If you’re just a fan, it’s still worth showing up. Watching the peloton fly through the desert with helicopters buzzing above feels like something out of a movie.

Founding Day Ride

Where: Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, and more

When: February 22, 2025

No race numbers here, just people riding together for something bigger. This ride happens every year on Saudi Arabia’s Founding Day, and it’s grown into a full-on celebration on wheels.

You’ll see children riding alongside their parents, cyclists sporting traditional sashes, and bikes decorated with historical themes. All of the rides have the same energy, even though some are just a few kilometers long and others are longer.

It’s about history, culture, and the pure joy of riding a bike with your community.

National Day Ride

Where: Across the Kingdom

When: September 23, 2025

This time it hits in a different way. Imagine thousands of cyclists riding at night, their bikes glowing green, Saudi flags flapping in the wind, and passersby cheering from the sidewalks.

It is occurring everywhere, whether you are in Jeddah, Riyadh, or even a small town. All rides share the same spirit of unity, pride, and unadulterated celebration whether they are planned or unplanned.

It’s likely the only day of the year when cyclists are treated with respect by the traffic. And it feels fantastic, I promise.

Finally

Cycling in Saudi Arabia isn’t just growing, it’s thriving. What I love most is how inclusive it’s becoming. You’ve got big international races that push the pros to the limit, and you’ve got local community rides that bring everyone together.

So if you’ve been thinking about joining a ride, this is your sign. Don’t worry about your speed or your gear. Just show up. Be part of it.

The road is waiting and 2025 is going to be one hell of a ride.
